SOCIAL CAPITAL + SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE

The missing link
in Australia’s disaster
resilience is here

Resilient Ready is proud to launch Australia’s first framework and mapping tool that puts people, connections, and the places that bring us together at the heart of disaster resilience.

Over 12 months we have worked with representatives from every Australian state and territory to create:

  • A unified language for how we can talk about social capital and social infrastructure.
  • A world-first approach to measuring connections and places.

We can now make the invisible, visible. This work helps governments, communities and all decision-makers understand where connections are strong and where more support is needed — to build a truly resilient Australia.

SOCIAL CAPITAL

The ties between people that help communities thrive

Social capital lies in our relationships: it’s who we know, who we trust, how we show up for each other, how we share information and how we act together in times of need.

To make social capital part of our everyday conversation, we need to measure and track it.

About Social Capital

Social Infrastructure

The places and spaces where people connect

Community places, open spaces, social businesses and places of culture & faith play a vital role in bringing people together to strengthen bridging ties across diverse groups.

By measuring social infrastructure, we can make equitable decisions where support is most needed.

National Mapping Tool

Making the
invisible visible

For the first time, Australia can explore community connections and the places that bring people together through Sociabli.

Pilot community data is now available for:

  • Social capital – bonding, bridging, linking and combined social capital ties
  • Social infrastructure – community places, open spaces, social businesses and places of culture & faith

Framework in action

Pilot Communities

To ensure the framework works in practice, we piloted it in three very different South Australian communities:

  • Adelaide City – a metropolitan centre with established systems and diverse populations
  • Whyalla – a regional centre navigating economic change, where residents and new arrivals are shaping the city’s future
  • Kangaroo Island – a remote community still rebuilding after the 2019-2020 Black Summer bushfires
